Comparison of mask standards

The new pneumonia epidemic situation is still serious, and related materials such as masks are in short supply. So what types of masks are currently on the market? What are the differences in implementation standards? Can masks be reused? Is it possible to make a face mask using the things that are common around me?

Mask categories

N95-is a concept proposed by the United States National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) in 42 CFR Part 84 of the United States Federal Regulations, including N, R, P three series, N series can block non-oily particulate respiratory protective equipment (Including masks), and there is no such thing as N95 in the domestic standard system. In addition, N series masks can be used for the protection of particulate matter, including the transmission of pathogens such as viruses, but it does not mean that all N95 masks can be used in front-line medical Protection

Medical protective mask-is the most demanding protective mask in the medical field at present. The technical index is GB19083, which can be used for high-risk, high-exposure front-line medical staff and staff protection;

KN 95-is the concept in the most widely used standard GB 2626 in the domestic labor insurance field. Standard respirators (including masks) are divided into KN and KP series. KN series can block non-oily particles. KP series can block oily and non-oily particles. ;

European standard particulate matter mask standard-EN 149 is divided into three levels of FFP1, FFP2, FFP3, but its test parameters (test flow, aerosol particle size characteristics, etc.) are different from GB 2626 and the United States N95; temporarily with GB 2626 Incomparable, but the daily use of protection by the population during the epidemic is sufficient;

European and American medical mask standards-European standard EN 14683 is divided into three types of medical masks Type Ⅰ, Type Ⅱ and Type ⅡR, respectively bacterial filtration efficiency, pressure difference, synthetic blood penetration, microbial cleanliness, there is no requirement for particulate matter filtration efficiency; The standard ASTM F2100 also divides medical masks into three levels of level 1-3, which respectively examine the bacterial filtration efficiency, pressure difference, sub-micron particulate filtration efficiency, synthetic blood penetration, and flame retardancy; because no sample comparison has been performed, It is impossible to confirm the level of these two standards and the requirements of GB 19083, but from the comparison analysis of standard texts, China's GB 19083 is not low.

Comparison of mask standards

The formulation of GB 19083-2010 originated from SARS in 2003. At that time, it was found that N95 masks can effectively prevent virus transmission. Therefore, its 2003 version requires particle filtration efficiency ≥95%. Later, the standard was revised to include anti-synthetic blood penetration and anti-staining. Performance, suitable for medical working environment with strong pathogenic transmission and in great need of protection. It is characterized by high barrier protection and close adhesion. It is mainly used for frontline medical care and staff. It is not recommended for elderly, children and frail healthy adults ;

YY / T 0969-2013 is suitable for wearing in general medical environment, it is the most commonly seen mask in daily pharmacy, and it is also suitable for people wearing protection during epidemic period;

GB 2626-2006 is a mask used in the workplace of safety supervision and labor protection for various types of particulate matter inhalation. The test methods and requirements of KN95 and N95 in 42 CFR Part 84 are similar, so it can play a better role. Barrier protection, its 2019 version will be implemented in the second half of 2020;

GB / T 32610-2016 is a prominent haze situation in recent years. It is a standard for masks worn by people in daily life protection. The main items are filtration efficiency and protection effect. Both salinity and oily aerosols are evaluated at the same time. Requirement of higher compatibility is also applicable to personal protection during severe epidemic conditions.

Are masks reusable

In order to guide different people to choose and use masks scientifically and reasonably, the State Council's joint prevention and control mechanism for pneumonia epidemic in response to new coronavirus infection has formulated the "Technical Guidelines for the Selection and Use of Masks to Prevent New Coronavirus Infection among Different Populations". The technical guidelines clearly stipulate that non-medical personnel outside the epidemic area, such as office workers or home-based people, do not have to go out and change a mask again! Masks are not required in places with good ventilation and low population density. During the epidemic of pneumococcal infection with new coronavirus, the use of masks (time of use, frequency of use) can be appropriately extended under the premise of protecting public health
